Images of text
- Images of text are pictures of writing, or pictures that contain writing. They are popular on some social networking sites such as Facebook.
- When you create alt text for images of text, make sure you include the words or text contained in the image in your alt text, so that screen reader users can access this. However, this does not make images of text fully accessible, as not all users with visual impairments use screen readers. Users without screen readers will not benefit from alt text.
- Although you can zoom in on an image, it will often lose clarity as you zoom. For images of text it is also not possible to change the contrast, or change the font of the text, as you could with regular text, which are all techniques that users with different accessibility needs use to make text more accessible.
- It is best practice to avoid images of text where possible.
