What is file sharing?

File sharing is the process through which one device user can get a file of theirs onto another user’s device. The file may be stored locally (as in, on the actual device – for example, saved to the device’s hard drive), or the file may be stored in the cloud, and a copy is shared to the other user.
File sharing can be done in many ways, but typically in a business setting file sharing has been done by email, although many organisations are now moving away from this. Personally, people may share files through platforms like WhatsApp – you might send a photo to a friend.
File sharing is a crucial part of many jobs, whether you are sat in an office sending colleagues reports and clients invoices, or you work in a cafe and send your colleagues pictures of each week’s rota. File sharing can also be an important part of your personal life too – you may need to send documents to your bank, or your doctor’s surgery, or a company you’re trying to get a refund from. You might need to send files to get a new railcard or bus pass, or to claim certain benefits.
Whatever you do online, file sharing is likely to be an important part of it.
